Q: Can the Pegisys Software be updated without registering? How can we update a Demo unit?
A: Yes, A customer can update the tool in Demo mode, when the tool is unregistered. This is to permit the customer to show the latest software on the tool to the end user in demo mode.

Q: If I currently subscribe to Direct-Hit, and I subscribe to Direct-Hit Technician on the Pegisys, do I need to keep my subscription to the Direct-Hit website?
A: Direct-Hit Technician is a specialized diagnostic edition of Direct-Hit for Pegisys owners. The Identifix Direct-Hit website subscription provides all of the information available in Direct-Hit Technician and access to additional tools and information only available on the website such as Job estimating, maintenance information, and Identifix’s unique maintenance sales tool. Additionally, the Direct-Hit website provides access for up to four (4) technicians in the shop. Having both subscriptions will insure that you and all of your technicians have instant access to the unique experience based diagnostic information that Direct-Hit provides, making sure that your shop operates at peak diagnostic efficiency. Finally, as a shop user, if you are a current subscriber to the Direct-Hit website, you can add a Direct-Hit Technician subscription to your account for a savings of 50% off the regular subscription price, or $39.00 per month.

Q: How long is the Identifix subscription and how do I continue?
A: The Security Card enables a 90 Day subscription for non Identifix website subscribers After the initial subscription period ends, the monthly subscription price is US $79.00 per month

Q: When will the diagnostic trouble code and flight recorder features be added to operate on the Pegisys VCI Module?
A: The DTC and Flight Recording features are future enhancements to the Pegisys and will be available in 2009.

Q: How much will the software cost to activate the J2534 Reprogramming function?
A: List price will be $349.95, available in December 08’. Software will permit vehicle reprogramming downloads. The website downloads are an additional charge directly delivered by the OEM web sites and their price schedules. (See e-learning site for list of OEM web site addresses and price schedules.

Q; My Pegisys communicates fine to the vehicle in wireless mode within close proximity of the vehicle. When I go further, why does it lose communication?
A: The wireless capability of the tool is designed for roughly 30 feet, even though it is possible to go farther, every shop has different "noise", such as: Cordless phones, other wireless networks in the area, certain lighting, and many other signals can interfere and hamper the distance of a wireless network.

Q: "How do I quickly setup wireless peer to peer between VCI and Handset?"
A: If handset and VCI lose wireless connectivity, first power up VCI, then power up handset, select Utilities -> Network -> Set Factory. This will reset handset wireless settings to factory default allowing peer to peer connectivity to resume. Detailed connectivity documents can be found on the Handset by pressing 'Help'.

Q: Is the Pegisys replacing the Genisys scan tool?
A: No, the Genisys will continue to be supported with updates and be available for sales and service for years to come. Pegisys is an all-new platform that integrates wireless communication, internet-based repair information and diagnostics into one tool.

Q: Will my tool stop working if my Pegisys time-based direct-to-tool subscription ends?
A: No, the Pegisys will be fully functional without the subscription, but you will not receive automatic updates for new vehicle coverage.

Q: How do I sign up for a Pegisys direct-to-tool subscription?
A: The fastest way to register is from within the Pegisys registration screen. Registration is also available by telephone or direct web entry. Available Now.

Q: Do I have to have wireless internet to use the Pegisys?
A: No. Although Pegisys is designed to be more convenient when used with a wireless connection to the internet, it can also be used with a wired Ethernet connection.

Q: Does the Pegisys VCI only operate wirelessly?
A: No, the Pegisys operates like a normal scan tool when the VCI is attached to the back of the Pegisys.

Q: Will a diagnostic workstation be available for the Pegisys?
A: Pegisys storage cases will be designed to split apart and be stored in most tool storage boxes, and in a diagnostic workstation specifically designed for the Pegisys.

Q: When will we have Vehicle specific application data available for Pegisys?
A: Providing a baseline Vehicle application data list can be provided , but bear in mind that, on a minimum monthly basis the list will change, adding new systems as part of the 12 month Pegisys software subscription. (Vehicle application charts for Genisys apply to the Pegisys initial software package).

Q: Is the Pegisys vehicle application information the same or better than the Genisys?
A: Pegisys Vehicle applications are virtually the same as Genisys at launch, but the difference is the Pegisys owner will benefit from very frequent (minimum monthly) updates as part of their subscription that will continually add new systems not yet found in Genisys. Genisys will continue with annual updates and “catch up” with those system “adds” annually.

Q: How much will the subscription updates cost?
A: Pegisys software subscription renewals become available in the market late in 2009. The application will include Domestic, Asian, ABS/air bag and InfoTech software in one bundle. The list price will be approximately $1200.00.

Q: Will the update subscriptions be sold as individual updates or as bundle or both?
A: Software bundle only as described above. Optional software subscriptions for European and Heavy duty truck applications will be available separately.

Q: Will the Pegisys do TPMS diagnostic and reset procedures where applicable?
A: Yes! The Pegisys will perform specific Diagnostic bi directional functions on TPMS systems just as the Genisys does today. Some vehicle systems still require a direct test RF tool such as the MD3833T8 to perform reset procedures.

Q: Will the Genisys be able to do J2534 reprogramming?
A: No, almost all J2534 reprogramming functions in the industry are now being performed using a PC and a VCI device like the Pegisys VCI.

Q: When will the stand alone J2534 reprogramming tool be available and how much will it cost?
A: The stand alone J2534 reprogramming tool will be released in December 08’, and have an approximate price of $2500.00 list and include the VCI device and Reprogramming PC software.

Q: Will the Genisys cables work with the Pegisys?
A: No, The Pegisys Cable system is uniquely designed based on customer feedback, to permit mating connection from an OBD I cable to the master OBD II cable connected to the Pegisys host. This is a quick disconnect benefit not found in the Genisys cable system. The cables for Genisys are designed to function with the OBDII smart cable, which is not required for use in the Pegisys.

Q: When will the HD software be available?

Q: Will we have an exchange kit for a Genisys for the Pegisys?
A: We are evaluating a value added program for exchange at this time.

Q: How long is the Indentifix subscription and how do I continue it?
A: The Pegisys “Direct Hit Technician” subscription, part number 3825-45, is a 90–day trial subscription. At the conclusion of the ninety days, the customer is contacted by Identifix and asked if they would like to continue the subscription. The customer can continue at their choice for a monthly fee of $79.00 Directly thru Identifix. Current Identifix “direct hit” subscribers who purchase the Pegisys Direct Hit Technician trial subscription can purchase an additional subscription for $39.00 per month.

Q: What is the boot time of the Pegisys?
A: Currently 43 seconds

Q: In the component test section of the scope, do we have specific data for the connector pin locations?
A: Yes, the component database within Pegisys is InfoTech , and does include connector pin locations on many makes and models.

Q: What is the replacement battery part number, warranty and cost?
A: The battery part number is 3825-05 and the price is $349.95 and the warranty is 90 days.

Q: What is the number of vehicles that can be stored for in the vehicle data storage section of the Pegisys? How long will this data remain?
A: Unlimited vehicles can be stored, but they are only retained for 2 weeks. Modis allows for storage of 25 vehicles.

Q: Will the internet function allow open browsing?
A: At this time, the Pegisys does not allow open browsing. This capability will be offered in future versions of the Pegisys. The current Pegisys will be capable of being updated to accommodate this future update and feature as an option.

Q: Why does the unit have Audio, Video and a Microphone? How and when will we be able to use them?
A: Future versions of the Pegisys will utilize these functions for additional productivity advantage in the Pegisys. Timing of this is still to be determined.

Q: If I lose the wireless connection between the VCI and Host unit while I’m hooked up to the car what will happen?
A: In the event that the tool is moved beyond the communication range of the wireless capability, the VCI will remain in contact with the vehicle, and the last state of interface will be maintained. Caution should be taken whenever performing bi-directional testing and moving the Pegisys unit beyond the communication range for the system.

Q: How do I check for wireless capability in a shop?
A: The tool will query for wireless capability.

Q: How can I determine if the shop wireless is compatible with the Pegisys?
A: The Pegisys utilizes 802.11g wireless – the most commonly used standard. To verify compatibility, just attempt to access the internet with any Pegisys tool.

Q: What happens when you might have more than one mechanic in the shop using an Pegisys and they happen to be working side by side? Will this cause any interference with each others unit?
A: No. The VCI is mated to the Pegisys at the factory and exclusive communications are maintained.

Q: Once Direct Hit is available, how will this be communicated to the mechanic who now owns the Pegisys? Will this be communicated via the internet to the Pegisys? Need to know as much information as possible.
A: SPX will launch a complete new product release on Direct Hit technician in late November/Early December to provide you all the information you need to sell the trial subscription and inform your customers. Additionally, an on tool, Pegisys demo version of Direct hit technician will be made available via in Late November/Early December, and be downloadable to all Pegisys in the field. Remember , you can download all update to your Pegisys tools in Demo mode via the internet. Tool subscription does not need to be activated via registration to get a download.
